Montpellier Launches AICET, the First AI Evaluation Test

January 29, 2024 by

In a groundbreaking move for the academic and technological community, the University of Montpellier unveiled the AICET (Artificial Intelligence Competence Evaluation Test) on January 30th. Held at the Faculty of Sciences, this test marks a significant milestone in the university's journey towards AI acculturation.

Testing the Waters

The AICET was a momentous occasion, drawing 120 eager students from diverse backgrounds, including participants from Polytech Montpellier. Structured into three levels of expertise - awareness, knowledgeable user, and expert - and covering five categories of skills, the test provided a comprehensive evaluation of participants' AI proficiency.

Categories Covered

  1. Theoretical Axis: Participants were tested on their fundamental knowledge in AI.
  2. Applicative Axis: Understanding the application domains of AI was assessed.
  3. Operational Axis: Proficiency in tools and methods of AI was evaluated.
  4. Legal and Ethical Axis: Participants were quizzed on laws, standards, and regulations governing AI.
  5. General Knowledge Axis: History and prominent figures in AI were also part of the evaluation.

A Collaborative Effort

The AICET is the result of a collaborative effort between BionomeeX, the University of Montpellier, Montpellier City, Metropolis, and CCAS, along with Numalis. It forms a crucial component of the "IA Cluster: world-class research and training hubs in artificial intelligence" project. This project, driven by a consortium of academic and business entities in Montpellier, aims to enhance education and awareness surrounding AI.

Towards Certification and Beyond

The AICET isn't just a test; it's a step towards standardization and recognition. With plans to pursue AFNOR certification and expand its implementation beyond Montpellier, the AICET is poised to become an essential tool for both the corporate sector and educational institutions. Moreover, it's designed to evolve in tandem with the dynamic advancements in AI technology.

The launch of AICET not only signifies Montpellier's commitment to AI education and proficiency but also underscores its position as a leading hub for AI research and innovation. As the field of artificial intelligence continues to evolve, initiatives like the AICET will play a vital role in shaping the future landscape of AI expertise and application.
