2D GWAS in Potato Breeding – HZPC
In collaboration with BionomeeX
HZPC is a company specialized in the development and commercialization of potato varieties tailored to economic, societal, and environmental requirements.
They create varieties adapted for fresh markets (firm flesh, mashing, frying) as well as for industrial uses (fries, chips, etc.).
Genetic Analysis Through 2D GWAS
In collaboration with BionomeeX, we apply 2D GWAS to analyze genetic data from different potato varieties.
The goal is to identify interactions between genetic variants that influence key agronomic traits, including:
🛡️ Disease resistance
🥔 Flesh quality and texture
🌦️ Adaptation to regional climates
⚙️ Industrial productivity (yield for fries, chips, mash)
The 2D GWAS approach goes beyond classical analyses by detecting epistatic interactions between variants — revealing gene combinations that affect traits of interest and explaining part of the “missing heritability” in complex traits.
From Data to Breeding Innovation
This enables HZPC and BionomeeX to:
