In collaboration with BioDivWind

BionomeeX, in collaboration with Klanik and BioDivWind, co-developed an AI-powered solution to detect and monitor protected bird species around wind farms.

The project addresses the critical need to reduce avian mortality caused by wind turbines while maintaining sustainable energy production.

AI-Powered Bird Monitoring

The AI system combines computer vision, deep learning, and real-time video analysis to:

  • 🔍 Detect bird presence near wind turbines, including rare or protected species

  • 🛫 Track flight paths and behavior to predict potential collision risks

  • Provide alerts and data for turbine management, allowing operators to temporarily adjust turbine activity to minimize bird strikes

Impact on Wildlife and Energy

By integrating environmental monitoring with advanced AI, the project enables:

  • 🌿 Continuous and automated bird surveillance at scale

  • 🧠 Improved understanding of species behavior and habitat use around wind farms

  • ⚙️ Implementation of data-driven mitigation strategies to balance renewable energy production and biodiversity conservation
