Dendrite Explorer

In public collaboration with the Eric Hosy team (CNRS)

The Dendrite Explorer project lies at the intersection of cellular neurobiology and artificial intelligence applied to neuroscience.
It aims to deepen our understanding of neuronal morphology and the mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity — fundamental processes that govern learning, memory, and neurological disorders.

AI for Advanced Neuroimaging

Developed by BionomeeX, Dendrite Explorer leverages AI-based image analysis and computer vision algorithms to process high-resolution microscopic images of neurons.

The application automatically:

  • 🧠 Detects dendritic spines

  • 🧩 Reconstructs complete 3D skeletons of dendrites

  • 📊 Extracts quantitative morphological parameters associated with synaptic activity

By combining deep learning with advanced neuroimaging analysis, the tool enables researchers to uncover fine-scale correlations between neuronal network structure and functional dynamics.

These analyses can also be used to explore how genetic, pharmacological, or environmental factors influence neuronal organization and connectivity.

Scientific Collaboration and Impact

In collaboration with the Eric Hosy team at CNRS, specialized in neurophysiology and synaptic dynamics, this project highlights the growing potential of artificial intelligence in neuroscience.

It provides a refined, objective, and multidimensional approach to studying the brain’s structural complexity, paving the way for new insights into learning mechanisms and neurological disorders.
